Dick Zunkel is a watercolor artist who added cartooning to his portfolio as a painter and illustrator. He retired from a long career in the door automation and security industries in 2007 to devote his time and energy to art. He began his Plain Air series of drawings in 2015 with a simple sketch of a plein air artist painting in front of a tunnel oblivious to the approaching train. He expanded this simple drawing into a series of over 150 single panel cartoons. He draws regularly for the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society website and newsletter.
